EP 11: The Path to Self-Confidence: Healing Inner Wounds and Igniting Self-Belief
Today, we're diving deep into the topic of confidence. If you're listening to this, chances are you've felt the impact of self-confidence on your life, or perhaps the lack thereof. It's a topic close to my heart because, like fear, a lack of confidence can hold us back from realizing our full potential.
So, let's start by asking ourselves, "How much do we believe in ourselves?" Confidence, at its core, is an unwavering belief in oneself. It's about trusting your skills, judgment, and worth. When you possess this kind of self-confidence, it radiates from within, giving you the courage to tackle challenges, take risks, and face life's difficulties with a deep knowing that you'll figure things out, even when the going gets tough.
Conversely, when confidence is lacking, it can lead to paralysis, procrastination, and self-doubt. You might find yourself constantly second-guessing your decisions, trapped in your thoughts but unable to take action. Many factors can contribute to low self-confidence, with childhood experiences often playing a pivotal role. Traumatic experiences, a lack of validation, or emotional abuse during childhood can leave a lasting impact on your self-worth and trust in yourself.
In my work as a coach, I've seen countless clients who want to boost their self-confidence because they realize it's holding them back in both their personal and professional lives. They want to reclaim control and step into their power. To achieve this, we embark on a journey of deep healing.
Here's how we work on increasing self-confidence:
1. Inner Child Work: We start by identifying the parts of them that don't feel worthy or deserving, the parts activated by imposter syndrome, and those that are afraid or hesitant to be vulnerable. Through deep healing, we work to reprogram these aspects stemming from past trauma.
2. Breathwork: Breathwork is a powerful tool for regulating the nervous system. It helps clients feel safer and more trusting during our sessions, even if they have reservations initially. It's a process that allows them to gradually rebuild trust in themselves.
3. Conversations with the Inner Child: I encourage clients to visualize their inner child and engage in a dialogue. They ask their inner child how they feel, what they need to feel safer, loved, and cared for. This process helps in understanding the root of their confidence issues and provides a foundation for healing.
4. Reframing: We explore their past and validate their experiences, acknowledging that they may not have had a supportive childhood. However, we also highlight areas in their current life where they do feel safe, supported, and capable of taking action.
5. Journaling: Clients use journaling as a tool to express their raw emotions, acknowledging feelings of loneliness and being misunderstood. Then, we work on reframing these thoughts by focusing on instances where they have shown confidence and capability.
6. Mindset Exercises: Clients become aware of their self-talk and learn to rephrase negative, definitive statements into ones that leave room for growth and possibility. We employ affirmations to subtly reprogram their minds to believe in themselves.
7. Mirror Work: While it can be challenging for those struggling with self-confidence, looking into their own eyes in the mirror can be a transformative exercise. It encourages self-compassion and self-love, helping clients become kinder to themselves.
8. Visualization: Visualization is a potent tool for shifting energy and building self-confidence. Clients are encouraged to imagine themselves in various scenarios, projecting confidence and trust in their abilities. This practice helps prepare them for real-life situations where self-confidence is crucial.
Self-confidence is a game-changer. It empowers you to pursue your dreams, defy societal expectations, and embrace your authentic self. I can attest to the transformative power of self-confidence in my own life. I've defied convention to create a life that is uniquely mine, guided by self-trust and unwavering confidence.
The journey to building self-confidence is not always easy, but it's worth the effort. It's about taking control of your emotions and thoughts, making a shift that can significantly impact your life. Witnessing clients evolve from feeling disillusioned, fearful, and doubtful to believing in themselves and achieving their dreams brings me immense joy.
