EP 79: Strategies for Navigating New Year Goals and Intentions

EP 79: Strategies for Navigating New Year Goals and Intentions

Hello and happy new year, my friend! It feels so good to be back, sharing and connecting after a short break. There’s something about a brand-new calendar year that sparks a collective sense of possibility, isn’t there? We reflect on our wins and losses, dream about what we want more of, and maybe feel a little anxious about the unknown. Sometimes the excitement can be motivating, and other times it can be paralyzing. If you’re in the thick of that push-pull—part of you saying “Yes, I’m ready for change!” and another part whispering “Wait, I’m not so sure”—then you’re in the right place.

Looking Back Before Leaping Forward

One of the most powerful ways I closed out last year was by reflecting on what had worked and what hadn’t. I’ve learned (the hard way, believe me!) that it’s so important to pause and acknowledge the progress we’ve made. Even if it didn’t always feel like progress, there’s often something we learned, something that changed, something we can be proud of. And when we honor those lessons, it gives our mind proof that new habits or bold moves can actually pay off. Our brains love evidence: “Oh, this scary thing worked out okay, so maybe it’s not so scary after all!”

I personally wrote down everything that felt heavy, limiting, or simply no longer in alignment. Then, with a grateful heart, I released it by burning that list in my fireplace. I thanked each challenge for the growth it offered and let it go—symbolically clearing space to welcome new blessings.

Day One: Choosing Rest, Embracing Life

As much as I love my work, I made a commitment this year to seek more balance. That means allowing myself to rest without guilt and giving my body and mind time to recharge. On January 1st, I faced a real tug-of-war between my never-ending to-do list and a promise to myself: “If you want more balance, you have to start now.”

I won’t lie—initially, it was tough. My mind kept leaping to all the tasks waiting for me. I ended up cleaning my house as a way to satisfy the itch to “do” something (I know, I know—but baby steps, right?). Eventually, I settled on my porch with an issue of Los Angeles Magazine I’d been meaning to read forever. For the first time in months, I let myself lose track of time, flipping pages, daydreaming about new restaurants to visit, and soaking up the sun. It felt amazing.

Later, I laced up my hiking shoes and hit a three-mile trail I love—something I’d been telling myself for weeks I was “too busy” for. Of course, once I got going, I felt energized and grateful. We all know it, but we forget: getting our bodies moving often boosts our energy more than it depletes it. I ended the day feeling lighter, more creative, and genuinely recharged. And the next day? My productivity soared. Rest, it turns out, actually helps us get more done (go figure!).

Set Goals or Skip Resolutions—Both Are Okay

Maybe you’re feeling super excited about this fresh start and ready to define your next chapter in detail. Fantastic! Take a moment to consider both your personal and professional world. What do you want to shift or call into your life? Which habits need tweaking? Are there skills you’d love to learn, passions you’d like to explore, or maybe boundaries you need to set?

Or perhaps you’re in the camp of “I hate New Year’s resolutions.” I get that too. If that’s where you’re at, focus instead on how you want to feel this year. Maybe you crave more calm or want better health or deeper relationships. Ask yourself, “What small, consistent changes will help me invite more peace, strength, or connection into my everyday routine?” It might be limiting the time you spend around certain people, picking one day a week to cook a healthy meal, or saying “no” more often so you can rest.

Health Goals: A Story of Resistance (and Hope)

I’ll be honest—health goals can push all my buttons. After living in a mold-infested house, my gut health has been a challenge. I know there’s an elimination diet that might help me, but I’ve been fighting it like a stubborn teenager, telling myself, “But I love broccoli and avocado! How can ‘healthy foods’ be the problem?”

The truth is, I’m tired of feeling uncomfortable. So I’m finally at the point of considering a change. Sometimes, the thing that seems the hardest is exactly what we need. Maybe this resonates with you too: you know the steps to make things better, but you resist because it feels big and overwhelming. Let’s do it together this year, trusting that small, steady actions can lead to massive shifts.

I’m thrilled because this is exactly the kind of nurturing, focused space I’d want for myself—dedicated time to release doubts, set intentions, and tap into that amazing feeling of possibility. It’s going to be such an uplifting way to start the year.

You’re Not Behind—You’re On Your Own Timeline

A gentle reminder for anyone who needs it: You’re not behind. You’re not late. Just because social media says everyone is “crushing it” on January 1st doesn’t mean you have to match that pace. Maybe you need an extra week or two—or maybe an entire season—to feel ready for change. That’s valid. The magic happens when we decide to begin exactly where we are, in our own time.

When you do get started, celebrate each milestone, no matter how small. For me, taking one day off—one day!—was a big deal. I’m learning to honor each “yes” to rest and each new step toward healing, strength, and deeper alignment with my purpose.

Returning to Your Power

At some point, every single one of us has achieved something a younger version of ourselves never thought possible. Look at how far you’ve come. Look at the ways you’ve grown, learned, and changed your reality. You did that. If you want to shift something new—a job, a relationship dynamic, your health—bring yourself back to that truth: You have the power to create and manifest a different experience.

Yes, the world can feel scary and uncertain. Yes, there might be challenges in the weeks or months ahead. But it’s also true that you can shape so much of your reality by choosing what to focus on, what to let go of, and how you show up daily.

Moving Forward, Together

I’m excited to keep cheering you on. It lights me up to guide people in breathwork, mindset shifts, and manifestation. If you need someone in your corner, I’m here. Join me for the Manifestation Portal, consider working together in my Dream Bigger Mastermind, or simply keep tuning in each week for fresh insights and encouragement.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Your energy, your dreams, and your determination inspire me every day. Here’s to a new year filled with growth, rest, adventure, and yes, a whole lot of breathing more.

Happy New Year, friend! Keep breathing and believing—you’ve got this.

I’ll talk to you again very soon. And until then, remember: a single day of rest can spark a hundred days of creative flow. Keep taking care of yourself, one step at a time. We’ve got plenty of magic to create this year.

See you next time!
