As adults, we have so much to deal with that being stressed seems like it’s just a normal part of life. We become used to worrying about things because… well, being an adult comes with a lot of stuff to worry about.
So, we write off some of the emotions we feel as normal.
But what about those times when we don’t really have much to stress about — yet those anxious feelings are still there, brewing beneath the surface (or even bubbling over)?
Here are some symptoms of anxiety that can be misinterpreted as just normal reactions to stress.
Take a second to look over them and ask yourself if you experience them even during times when there aren’t many stressors present
Symptoms of Anxiety
Rambling or talking too fast.
Feeling like all of your thoughts are racing around in your head, vying for your attention
Forgetting what people said to you almost immediately
Feeling like you have to control everything people do so that nothing goes wrong
Reacting angrily to situations that don’t normally incite anger in people
Feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list, even if they’re all small tasks
Thinking about the same thing over and over again
Feeling like you’re failing as an adult
Overthinking social interactions (before, during, and/or after they occur)
Feeling like there’s too much going on and you can’t process it all
Physical symptoms like digestive issues, stomach pains, or hot flashes
Worrying about other people’s feelings — even if they did something to you
Being unable to enjoy the moment you’re in
Struggling to ask people for things you want or need
Stressing out for hours over things that you could do in a short period of time
Passing out from exhaustion at night instead of just falling asleep peacefully
Uncontrollable tremors
Sudden numbness or tingling sensations, especially in your hands or feet
A sudden and intense feeling of your energy being drained
Feeling unusually irritated by normal noises and needing to get away from it all
If you read through this list and found yourself relating to several of the symptoms, there’s a possibility you’re one of the millions of people living with anxiety.
The good news is that there are ways to manage these symptoms, reclaim a feeling of calm, and experience a life filled with more peace and mindfulness.
Some of my favorite strategies include meditation, yoga, and breathwork. If you’d like to find out if these strategies can work for you as well, I want to invite you to join us for a FREE live breathwork class. During these classes, I help people from all over the world practice strategies to manage both stress and anxiety through a combination of guided meditation and intentional breathwork.
We gather once a month via Zoom, so click here to sign up for the next session and I look forward to seeing you there!
